FAQ:
- Why won't MAEviz start?
I get the error, "Error creating the view, Bad version number in .class file", what can I do to fix this?
Make sure you have Java version 1.6 (Also branded as Java 6) or greater installed. Make sure you also launch MAEviz from shortcut in the start menu, as it sets some necessary settings for running MAEviz.
- I can't connect to the public repository. Why not?
The repositories use some internet ports that your network may be blocking. If you are using a wireless network such as UIUC's that blocks ports other than web or email, make sure you are running in a mode that will open the ports (like UIUC's vpn). Once you are sure you are connected, you can right-click the repository, and click reconnect.
- I should be able to connect to the public repository, but it still marks it as not corrected? Is there a way to make it reconnect?
You can right click on the repository, and choose Reconnect. This will cause MAEviz to attempt to reconnect to the repository. If the initial problem isn't resolved, it will still fail, though.
- How do I save my work?
MAEviz automatically saves your work as you go. There is no need to explicitly save your data.
- How can I update MAEviz?
I used to be able to update, but it seems broken now?
The update mechanism only works with minor updates (2.3 to 2.4, etc). You will need to download 3.0 separately.
- When I try to reload use cases, things are connected correctly
This is currently an experimental feature, and thus might have some strange behaviors at times. All problems with it should be resolved by the next release.
- I have MAEviz data from before version 2.3 that I would like to use. How can I?
I get errors saying something about a missing GUID. What do I need to do?
MAEviz data from before version 2.3 is missing unique ids that MAEviz now required. But these repositories can be updated to work with newer versions.
In the Catalog view, right click on the name of the repository you want to update. There are two options: Convert/Repair Repository and Migrate Repository. The
convert/repair option will upgrade the repository without making a backup of the data. The migrate option will open a dialog box that allows you to select a location for the upgraded repository. After making the selection, MAEviz will copy the old data to the new repository and upgrade it to the 2.3 specifications.
